Apple Pie With Walnuts


SERVE WARM OR AT ROOM TEMP WITH A SCOOP OF VANILLA ICE CREAM.


7 apples
1/2 cup raisins
3/4 cup plus 1 tbs sugar
1 stick unsalted butter
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tbs heavy cream
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped walnuts


  1. HEAT OVEN TO 375F.
  2. Peel and slice the apples. Cover the bottom of a 9 inch pie plate with apple slices and sprinkle with raisins.
  3. In bowl, beat 3/4 cup sugar and butter 5 min. or until fluffy. Add egg and 1 1/2 cups flour and mix to form dough.
  4. Sprinkle work surface with flour. Turn dough out onto surface, roll the dough into a crust. Cut the crust into 2 inch squares and lay these over apples to create a patchwork effect. Brush with the cream.
  5. In bowl, stir together remaining sugar, cinnamon and walnuts. Sprinkle over the crust and bake 15 min. LOWER THE OVEN TEMP TO 350F and bake 35 min. longer, or until crust is golden brown.
